In class this week, we spoke on contrast and focus. The deliberate creation of a focal point is called emphasis. In addition to establishing hierarchy, it adds character, balance, and drama. It also influences how an observer feels or sees a room, and it may be influenced by architectural features, furniture, lighting, textures, and views.   When two or more opposing components or qualities are present in an area, contrast results. Cohesion is vital, but it also has a tendency to blur everything together and make the room seem boring. Contrast creates equilibrium by utilizing many components. Color, form, texture, substance, or style can all be used to produce it. When employed properly, contrast may produce harmony and visual intrigue.
